Our guides help drivers understand car insurance before they request a quote. This page explains where our information comes from, how we keep it current, and how to tell us when something is wrong.
Where our information comes from
- State requirements, such as minimum liability limits and required coverages, are checked against each state's insurance department or motor vehicle agency.
- Cost figures are estimates drawn from publicly available rate studies and market research. We present them as examples for comparison, never as quotes.
- City facts such as population, counties, and highways come from the 2020 U.S. Census and public transportation sources, linked on each city page. We don't publish city-level prices, because rates depend on your ZIP code and profile.
- Coverage explanations follow standard policy terms used across the US auto insurance market.
How we keep pages accurate
State guides are reviewed quarterly and whenever requirements or market prices change, and each page shows when it was last updated. We correct errors as soon as we confirm them. Because laws and prices change, we encourage you to confirm current requirements with your state insurance department or a licensed agent before you buy.
Independence
Our site is funded by introductions to licensed agents and by advertising, as explained on How We Make Money. Partners and advertisers cannot review, approve, or pay to change our guides.
What our guides are not
Our content is general information, not legal, financial, or insurance advice for your situation. We are not an insurance company or agency, and we do not set prices or decide eligibility.
